I’ve figured it out.
The fleet will travel back in time and return to Earth, pre-nuclear war. Their arrival will change history and prevent the war; instead, they’ll all go to a concert and hear Bob Dylan sing the definitive version of “All Along The Watchtower”.
And everyone will live happily ever after.
