A whale of a day

Today’s highlight was a whale-watching trip with Pacific Whale Eco-Adventures on the Ocean Guardian. It’s early in the season but we got lucky and were able to see a competitive group (males competing for a female) in action for more than an hour.

Whales leave a “water print” of flat water when they dive – it’s a good way to know where a whale was a few minutes ago.

We started seeing whales above the water just a few minutes later, and they stayed busy for quite a while.

After the whale-watching and lunch at the Maui Ocean Center’s Seascape restaurant, we drove up to our timeshare (the Westin Nanea in Ka’anapali), arriving just as the check-in window opened.

This evening, we had dinner at Maui Brewing Company and took a long walk along the boardwalk that runs the length of the resort area. We walked out towards the beach for a little stargazing before calling it a night.
