There was a rainbow outside our window this morning, which seemed like a good way to start our last full day on Kauai.
We’d booked a self-guided tour of Na ‘Aina Kai (“Lands by the Sea”) Botanical Gardens and Sculpture Park for today. We’d been there last year on a beautiful sunny day; today was gray and windy with occasional showers, but we enjoyed our visit anyway.
We had lunch at the Kilauea Bakery and then drove towards Kapa’a to take a long walk on the Ke Ala Hele Makalae multi-use path along the sea. In past years, we’d walked the path through the center of Kapa’a; this year, we started at the scenic overlook near the HI-56 roundabout and walked north all the way to the Pineapple Dump.
We’d heard good things about Honu Shave Ice, so we drove into town to give them a try. I parked at the ABC Store next door and felt obligated to walk in and pretend to shop there instead of just walking over to the shave ice stand; much to my surprise, we saw something we wanted – matching aloha wear!
The shave ice was wonderful, by far the best shave ice I’d had on this trip, but I may find another place to park next time.
